The Rick Case Golf Classic was held at Inverrary Country Club. The Golfers were greeted by Chic Fillet with their mascot the Cow. On number nine the golfers were treated to hamburgers and hot dogs. On another hole they were treated to fresh fruit and Gatorade by hospitality man Bob from Costco.

Prestige has an honory member named Jimmy Crews. Four years ago Jimmy was in a terrible auto accident leaving him unable to talk or walk. After years
of therapy Jimmy is going to Marathons with his crank bike. In New York with Prestige sign on the back of his bike he came in second. In Miami recently he broke a record and now has been asked to go to Boston and Poland for their Marathons.

Two weeks ago Jimmy graduated from two year college studying computers. He now is talking, and walking with a walker. He still has therapy several times a week. Jimmy asked if he could play golf that he had been practicing standing and swinging at the golf range. Jimmy not only played golf but sank the putt that won his team a prize. He was elated. He did fall several times losing his balance but just got up and started over.

Several weeks ago one of our Board of Director’s sent a mother to talk to CEO Polly Wilkie The mother’s son did not want to live . The young man in
his twenties had come back from Afganistn and had a seizure causing many problems. After speaking to Polly Wilkie who told her Jimmy Crews story the
woman agreed to let Jimmy go and talk to her son. Jimmy’s dad took him to see the young man they even took him to the beach.

Jimmy now is taking him to group meeting for support, the young man wants to get a bike like Jimmy’s and go in the Marathon. Jimmy told him he would be able to do it because he has the upper body strength. Jimmy eMails him and the young man is being helped . Jimmy is an inspiration to everyone.

Prestige is honored to have him on our team. A gentleman sitting with Jimmy at the table said, “I guess I am sitting with a Star” and Jimmy turned to him and said the perfect thing, “Jimmy does what Jimmy does”.

Partnership with the Prestige Club

The SUN Program is a researched skill-building program which teaches adolescents social skills and problem solving techniques. It is a solution-focused, 10 step, interactive program which engages young people to help themselves, as well as to help others.

Using the techniques of positive self-talk and personal introspection, students learn to take responsibility for their behaviors and self-regulate. They learn that a person’s decision making, problem solving and coping skills greatly affect the course of one’s life.

By learning these skills in a systematic 10-step program, students gain the tools to avoid impulsive choices and practice conscious deliberation of alternatives. They then plan the steps to solve their dilemma, take action and adjust their course of action, if necessary.

Students need more than slogans (Just Say No) and consequences (suspensions) to combat the peer pressure to use drugs and exert excessive control over others (bullying and gang involvement). They need real practice in making good choices, positive coping mechanisms and effective communication skills enhancement.

The SUN Program has been adapted to meet the needs of the Prestige Club Hoot Camp Program and includes a specific curriculum. It can be further modified if necessary, to fit the groups’ logistics or desired goals.

GOALS – Participants will:

Obtain positive decision making skills to prevent drug and alcohol use.

Obtain social behavior skills, thereby reducing violence and bullying.

Learn how to communicate with peers & adults to relieve peer pressure and stress.

Develop understanding and empathy skills resulting in a willingness to help others.

Increase self-confidence and self-worth to eliminate use of drugs, bullying and depression.

Learn problem solving skills to control anger and impulsivity and eliminate feelings of helplessness.

Learn control and adaptability skills and behaviors so interactions are effective and appropriate with friends, family, at school and in other social situations.

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — We all want to see children get the best start possible for the coming school year. That¹s why the owners of ClearGrafx Printing and Events, Etc…, took time from their own agendas, to assist school children through the not-for-profit Light of the World Clinic – The only free, privately supported medical clinic in Broward County.

Volunteers from Events, Etc…, with help from ClearGrafx Printing and the Prestige Club of Broward, collected items to fill more than 100 backpacks with school supplies for students who came to the clinic for back-to-school check-ups. Each child examined received a backpack filled with goodies.

“It means everything to the children who received these backpacks full of all the supplies they need for their classrooms,” boasted Sandra Lozano-Barry, Executive Director of the clinic. “The families of many of these kids have no way to afford the school supplies they need, but now 100 children can be proud to go to school knowing they are fully prepared.

The backpacks, themselves, were supplied by Publix and were filled with many of the necessities for back-to-school. Events, Etc…, ClearGrafx and the Prestige Club donated such items as pencils, notebook paper, composition books, glue sticks, erasers, rulers, crayons and folders.

The Light of the World Clinic was founded by the late Dr. Erwin Vasquez, in 1989, to fill a void in the Broward community. Its primary goal is to provide free basic healthcare and medicines to those who can least afford it. The Clinic serves more than 12,000 men, women and children a year. Volunteer
physicians, nurses and medical students donate their time and resources, and millions of dollars are saved for taxpayers by this humanitarian effort. The Clinic receives no funding from the public healthcare system and relies on personal donations, special events and grants to continue its bountiful spirit of dedication to the less fortunate in our community. More information about the clinic and its work can be found at www.FlaFreeClinic.org.

Harold Jarvis, owner of ClearGrafx Printing said, “I came last year to help deliver the backpacks. When I saw how appreciative the kids were, I was hooked. I’ve looked forward to this all year.” ClearGrafx Printing, Inc. is a family-owned and operated full-service printing company established in 2000. Located in Davie, Florida, ClearGrafx is a member of the Printing Association of Florida and of the Printing Industries of America.

Beth Jarvis, President of Events, Etc…said, “This is the sixth year I have been involved with the LOTW Clinic’s backpack give-away. It’s always wonderful to see the looks on the children’s faces when they realize they have all the tools they need to start a new school year on the right foot.” Events, Etc… is a local event production company, specializing in producing fundraising events for area not-for-profits. For more information, visit their website at www.EventsEtcFla.com.
