Hoot Camp A Big Success

A dream of Prestige was to have an eight week program in the schools, and it took one and a half years for it to happen. At first when it was approved at Dania Elementary and Collins Elementary they wanted it after school. What bully is going to Anti=Bullying Class after school.

After many meetings it was agreed to have it from one to two during regular hours.

The kick off at Dania Elementary Dania Commissioner Bobbie Grace, Broward Sheriff Al Lamberti, School Superintendent, and School Board Member Donna Korn attended along with our Board Members. Refreshments were served.

The first week was Anti-Bullying followed by Anti-Drugs, Anger Management, Solution and Solving a Problem and Etiquette Classes.

One hundred forty 5-graders were bussed to Inverrary Country Club where our member Fred Ginsberg gave them a three course hot meal.

They were taught how to tie ties, set tables, fold napkins and manners. Some children did not know how to cut their chicken, and some had not seen real knives and forks. It was a fun day for all.

Our teachers chose six girls and six boys as winners. The girls got Pandora Bracelets with owls and the boys went with Board Members to VIP seats at the Marlins game; donated by Dex Imaging.

The Principals changed their minds once they found out one of the winners was the biggest bully in the class. He was surprised to find out in eight weeks it changed them.

Bishop Swillely singled out the one they said was a bully to be his partner. He found out talking to the young man that he had seen his brother and sister killed in front of him last year that is why he was acting out and became a bully.

This was a great success story for Prestige and now twenty schools would like to have it, however we do not have the funding.
